The 8th Annual "Moon Festival" Is Back...

Once again the Moon Festival is back in town this weekend Saturday & Sunday September 16th & 17th. I was talking with Jin Pang one of the festivals main organizers and she expects this year to be the best "Moon Festival" ever!! With over 180 vendors, loads of great entertainment, souvenir tent, raffle prizes, VIP Lounge, a fun bounce area for kids, craft making, ceremonial traditional tea house, Moon Cakes, riddles to solve, a special "Events Moon Booklet," Saturday night fireworks, and even a special appearance by the legendary Chang’e, the lady in the moon, from which the "Moon Festival" came into existence.

The "Moon Festival" or "Mid- Autumn Festival," is the second largest Asian Festival celebrated, with the largest being Chinese New Year. Besides eating Moon Cakes, the "Moon Festival" is about being with family and enjoying feasts from the bountiful harvests of the season- much like "Thanksgiving" in the Americas. The "Moon Festival" dates back over 3,000 years!

I have been to the "Moon Festival" two times in the past two years

and I have always enjoyed the family fun environment, good classical entertainment, wonderful food (there is a rumor of the best Peking Duck coming this year!), best fireworks I have seen in this area, and all the great traditional crafts and other fun things to do. Last year Mrs Pang said over fifteen thousand people attended the "Moon Festival!" and this year they expect even more people, so try to get there early. I hope to see all my neighbors and friends at the 8th Annual "Moon Festival!!"
